At long last, pet sales on the way out in L.A.
BY GREGORY CASTLE
It’s a great day for animals in the city of Los Angeles! On Wednesday of this week, the Los Angeles City Council (by a vote of 12-2) approved an ordinance that bans the retail sale of dogs, cats and rabbits in the city.
With only a formality remaining before the ordinance becomes law, Los Angeles will become the largest community in the United States to enact legislation that puts an end to the flow of animals to pet stores from puppy mills, the large commercial breeding farms that supply pet stores.

A4447926 Jackson is a magnificent two year old gold neutered male Golden Retriever/Chow mix who was found in West Covina with his companion Millie (A4447930) on June 16th and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center. Weighing fifty-four pounds, Jackson walks okay on leash but would benefit from additional training. He is good with other large dogs but should not be around small dogs he doesn’t know. He is quite bonded to Millie and he loves to groom her. We think he will be good with children. Jackson will be the perfect indoor pet for an active individual or family living in a private home.To watch a video of Jackson and Millie please click here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KQjnP4Xnpw

Change the future for a beautiful black dog or cat
“Last year’s Back in Black adoption promotion helped find homes for more than 900 black dogs and cats nationwide. And this year, with your help, we hope even more deserving pets will find homes. Black dogs and cats make wonderful companions. But they’re often overlooked for adoption. So Back in Black is all about encouraging people to give them a second look — and a second chance.
Adopt Today!

Baldwin Park Shelter A4373096

Tommy is a handsome three year old gold male Golden Retriever/Chow Chow mix who was found in Baldwin Park on December 10th and brought to the shelter. He was adopted and subsequently returned to the shelter on February 17th because he can be food aggressive. Weighing twenty-nine pounds, he walks well on leash. He is friendly to other dogs and was good with his former family’s children. Tommy needs some boundaries as to who is the alpha in his family, and we think he will be quite trainable. Tommy will make a good pet for an adult family living in a private home.

Just to let people know, I have a dog who is food aggressive and with some time and a little bit of training, you can fix it.

North Central Shelter - City of Los Angeles Animal Services A1269297

Jack is a 3 year old male brown and white Boxer/Mastiff mix who was found as a stray on December 4th and brought to the North Central LA City shelter. Jack had a possible owner, but they never came to reclaim him. Jack is a big guy who would do well with a strong owner. Jack responds very well to training. Jack would do really well with someone who would take him on walks, hikes or jogs. Weighing 90 pounds, Jack is a stunningly handsome dog!! Given Jack’s size, we did not put him nose-to-nose with other dogs, but he was in close proximity and seemed indifferent to the other dogs. All North Central animals come spayed/neutered, microchipped and with full shots (including rabies).

To watch a video of Jack please click here:http://youtu.be/ C3bCMh3N6uY

**Please note that Jack would be best suited for an experienced dog handler, particularly one that is experienced with strong breeds. Jack is a very special dog and we hope to find just the right match for him!

Here’s a second video of Jack:http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=kqMggxdI6xA&feature =youtu.be
